Community-based Medical Education (CBME)
Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College (GSVMC) is a pioneering institution dedicated to Community-based Medical Education (CBME) in Bangladesh. The four-month long CBME program takes place with equal duration in four phases of the MBBS course. One month as a foundation course in the first phase before starting the first-year class, one month in the second phase, one month in the third phase and one month in the final phase
CBME is designed to integrate clinical training with community engagement, ensuring that students gain firsthand experience in addressing public health challenges at the grassroots level. Unlike conventional medical education, which is predominantly hospital-based, CBME emphasizes learning in real-world community settings, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of social determinants of health, primary healthcare, and disease prevention strategies.
Key Feature
A key feature of the CBME program at GSVMC is its strong linkage with Gonoshasthaya Kendra (GK), a pioneering healthcare organisation in Bangladesh. Through structured field placements, students engage in community health assessments, primary care services, maternal and child health programs, and health promotion activities.
