Centre for Community Health and Research (CCHR)

The Centre for Community Health and Research (CCHR) of Gonoshasthaya Samaj Vittik Medical College (GSVMC) is a pioneering institution dedicated to advancing community-based medical education, research and public health initiatives. Rooted in the college's commitment to a people-oriented approach to healthcare, CCHR plays a vital role in integrating community engagement with academic excellence.

Vision

To be a leading centre of excellence in community-based healthcare education and research, fostering innovation, collaboration and social responsibility in medical practice.

Key Roles of CCHR

✅Community-based Medical Education (CBME)

CCHR is at the forefront of implementing Community-based Medical Education (CBME), which aligns with GSVMC's philosophy of producing socially accountable healthcare professionals. Through field-based training, medical students actively participate in real-world healthcare delivery, gaining hands-on experience in rural communities. This model fosters clinical competency, empathy and a strong public health perspective among future physicians.

✅ Public Health and Clinical Research

CCHR conducts multidisciplinary research addressing critical health issues in Bangladesh, including non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, climate change, food security and mental health. The centre facilitates epidemiological studies and health system research to generate evidence-based solutions for community health challenges. CCHR collects surveillance data from the field and encourages teachers, researchers, and students to produce articles on different health issues, present at national and international conferences and seminars, sharing knowledge with other institutions to improve GK's knowledge, skills, program and activities.

✅ Policy Advocacy and Community Engagement

Beyond academics and research, CCHR actively engages in health advocacy, community outreach program and capacity-building activities for healthcare workers. The centre works closely with local and national stakeholders to influence policies that promote equitable healthcare access and improved health outcomes for disadvantaged populations.
